Over a year ago I wrote about the advantages trainers have as they age and grow more seasoned and experienced. In the spirit of helping my fellow iron-pumpers who have crossed over the 30-year-mark and continue to hit it hard well into their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and well beyond, here are some tips to make your training safe, productive, and efficient. After all, serious fitness isn’t just for the young bucks and does anymore! Keep Using Heavy Weights It’s natural to assume that as you get older, it’s time to start using lighter weights and higher reps. Free weights are probably a bad idea, too. You don’t want to get hurt, old dude. What a crock of crap! The truth is that you can maintain the majority of your muscle size and strength well into your 70’s if you continue to train with heavy weights.
